Our essential funeral is a simple and lower-cost option suitable for those who want to keep costs down, or if the person who died wanted a simpler send off. Essential funerals Tailored funerals Our tailored funeral means you’re able to decide exactly what’s included in the funeral arrangement. From a horse-drawn hearse to a favourite colour theme, tell us what you want and we’ll do our best to make it happen. Tailored funerals Direct cremation A direct cremation is a low-cost, straightforward cremation with no service, mourners or ceremony. This means you can celebrate the person's life in a time and place that's best for you. It’s a low-cost alternative that lets you remember the person in your own way and in your own time. Direct burial Direct burial You can pay in full, spread the cost over 6 or 12 months with no additional costs or monthly instalments over 2–25 years. Charles Robb used to be a reputable, family run business. However nowadays they are merely a Co-op franchise, who take advantage of people at their most vulnerable. Charging grieving families through the nose for the 'convenience' of purchasing a funeral as a package. In hindsight I am extremely unhappy with the service we received. Having waited a fortnight for the service, we were left to deal with the emotionally distressing experience of witnessing the gradual deterioration of our loved one. To the point it became clearly visually apparent. I personally felt more could have been done to disguise this. When questioned I was told in no certain terms and a rather patronising tone, it was not possible, but some make up and cotton wool would have sufficed. The room was also in a filthy condition, with dead flies and dust covering the window sills and a damp and musty smell. Not to mention the paint stained cloth and carpets that looked like they hadn't been hoovered in a very log time. We were also misinformed on numerous and had to query the information we were given. Overall, I was left feeling extremely let down and disappointed with the service we were provided given the cost and would not recommend them if you wish for a professional service for your dearly departed. I will never use them or the Co-op again after this appalling experience.

Our family have used Charles Robb in years gone by. Following a recent loss we needed the services of a funeral director once more. We looked at various options and reviews and then decided to visit Charles Robb. As has been stated elsewhere, Charles Robb is now part of Cooperative Funeral Care, this has had no bearing on the service we received as it was 100% positive. We were looked after from start to finish by funeral director Pete Sadler- Eastwood. I cannot praise Pete highly enough for his help through that difficult period. He took care of every aspect from dealing with the cemetary, the floral tributes, the priest to arrange a requiem mass and the preparation of a mass booklet in memory of the deceased. Everything was itemised with no hidden charges. We were informed of progress throughout the whole process and we were treated with respect and our deceased family member was treated with dignity. The whole process from first visit to burial was flawless and I cannot recommend Charles Robb highly enough. This is a genuine non paid for review as I have heard of various reports about funeral care and I thinjk it my duty to publicise good service to help others make an informed decision in troubled times.
