Flixton Dog Training Club is a small friendly club. Our aim is to help you to train your dog and become a responsible owner. Dogs of all ages and ability, any breed, registered or not are welcome and we revolve around the dog becoming a well behaved, healthy and much loved member of the family. We do use reward based training and no harsh methods are used. Our aim is that both the dog and handler enjoy the training and that you and your dog will gain in confidence and you will become able to control your dog in all situations. Puppies can start as soon as they have finished their vaccinations. We will teach you to train your puppy the basics and help you build a rapport with your dog. We run the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme which promotes socially acceptable dogs and creates responsible owners. All lessons are geared towards the handler’s ability to control and general care of their dog. Once you have mastered the basics you will find taking your dog out far more rewarding and hopefully you will feel proud of what you and your dog have attained. Most people with dogs think they have a problem. Very often it is not a problem just a general lack of understanding why the animal is behaving in that way.

After attending 3 training sessions with our puppy, we decided to try somewhere else. We did not feel comfortable with the way some of the more lively puppies were treated; owners were encouraged to pull sharply on the lead whilst shouting "NO" at the puppy if they were distracted by food/other dogs/other people. We thought enough was enough when one dog was forcibly pushed away when jumping up and puppies were audibly straining against their collars e.g. gasping and hoarse, croaky breathing. It made us feel uncomfortable and very sorry for the puppies. We have since found a different training school where more modern training methods are used and the puppies seem much happier.
