We specialise in providing private tuition in KS1 & KS2 Maths & English for ages 6 - 11 years. Our aim and purpose is to provide a firm foundation to aid primary school children realise their potential to build a successful future.

Every year, all or almost all of our entrance exam candidates secure a pass – often a very high pass – and are subsequently offered grammar school placements.
The demand for our tuition service is therefore very great, and so places are booked well in advance. Whilst obviously every child is different, in our opinion, if you ignore tuition until your child is in, or about to enter Yr. 5 you could have already put your child at a great disadvantage, as there may be too many problem areas to address before entrance exam prep can begin in earnest.
We are now enrolling Yr. 2 and Yr. 3 children for tuition for when they commence Yr. 3 and Yr. 4, which is, for most children, an ideal time to begin their tuition journey. So, if your child is currently in Yr. 2 or Yr. 3 now would be the time to contact us.

Amazing… very highly recommend. When we took the decision to find a tutor, our son was very frustrated, confused and upset with his levels of math's knowledge… he had a dislike for math's and was regularly despondent at being amongst the lowest scores in his school class. When John kindly agreed to take him on as a student, I was impressed at the level of personal attention given to each child and used their initial assessment to tailor a specific learning plan for our son, focusing on the areas of math's and English that he struggled with the most (not just following a rigid generic plan). The results have been phenomenal… as parents and for our son too, we couldn't be happier. We now have is a son who each week has been excited to attend John's one-to-one tutoring lessons… who has developed a huge love, enjoyment and understanding of math's and vastly improved his confidence, knowledge and speed in all areas. His confidence in math's has blossomed above our expectations and now consistently finds himself in the top 2-3 students of his school class. With the skills and understanding instilled by John Cashin tutoring, we are delighted to say our son passed every Grammar School entrance exam across Trafford, and excited to be accepted for a place at his first choice Grammar School from September. There is a very good reason why families who use John Cashin A* Tuition for their eldest children jealousy keep their places there for younger siblings; indeed, that is what I am doing too! John Cashin is an outstanding, highly experienced, supportive and dedicated tutor whom I wholeheartedly recommend for 11+ exam preparation, and for Trafford Grammar Schools in particular. This independent tutor is the opposite of intensive “exam farms” you may come across around Trafford. With John, children get individually tailored support and instead of “tutoring children within an inch of their lives” John and Michelle Cashin always put the happiness and well-being of children at the centre of their training. Their approach is very successful. Under John’s guidance, our son quickly filled all the knowledge gaps he had acquired since the pandemic years. His confidence grew very rapidly and he developed a real fondness of maths, a topic he used to struggle with. His lessons with John were always the highlight of the week for him: he couldn’t wait for the next one and was very motivated to work hard and practise between lessons to show John what he was able to do. Michelle Cashin supported us with guidance on practice materials we could use at home and precious advice about the test itself based on the years of experience she and John have. Michelle always had words of encouragement and praise for our son and all the children who study with them. You can tell that she and John care a lot about the well-being of the children. Michelle organises everything in great detail so that John is able to focus 100% on his tuition and dedicate himself to the children. I have been frankly amazed at how John managed to build up our son’s confidence and ability in maths, as well as the other exam topics. By the time the 11+ exam came around, John even called him a “maths boffin”! We made use of John’s excellent summer school sessions in August (only open to his regular students I believe), and worked closely with him to fine-tune particular topics, exam practice and build up speed in answering exam questions. In September 2023, at the start of year 6, our son passed the 11+ for all the Trafford consortium Grammar Schools (which is all the schools he attempted). We were able to put our preferred Grammar school at the top of our applications list, and secured a place there on national offer day. Our son is now sailing effortlessly through Year 6 and is working at greater depth in all 3 core subjects. Note that John will always give you an honest assessment of your child’s chances of success, and his predictions are remarkably accurate. Thank you John and Michelle for all your support and we look forward to sending our youngest son to you in September.

John is a truly knowledgeable and the kindest tutor we have ever had. My daughter has got a very high score for her 11+ exam. And she enjoyed every lesson with John. John is very professional and patient with all the children. The environment is always clam but also cheerful. Michelle is always very helpful and friendly. I would definitely strongly recommend John to every kids who want a successful 11+ exam. I am also looking forward to send my younger daughter to John’s tuition. God bless them all.

We have had an excellent experience with John Cashin Tuition over the past two years. John is professional, knowledgeable and provided well-structured lessons which were an invaluable part of our 11+ journey. In addition, both John and Michelle are experts at understanding the 11+ system and were always able and willing to provide detailed answers to any questions we had concerning the process overall. Would definitely recommend, as is evident from the fact we are currently using them again for our second child!

We have been delighted with John's tuition of our son for the Trafford grammar schools exam. From the start, it was clear that he was an expert and really knew what he was doing (unlike a big local tutoring "company" we tried previously - the tutor we were allocated wasn't great, so we cut our losses and switched to John - best decision ever). We saw a huge improvement in our son's performance and confidence over the course of the year, and he actually enjoyed the sessions and looked forward to them (admittedly we did not expect that!). He went into the exam confidently as he felt well prepared. He has just received his entrance exam results and has passed by a very comfortable margin for all the Trafford grammar schools applied for, including his first choice of AGSB. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend John as an amazing tutor for the Trafford grammar school exams (and much else besides!) Also a big thank you to lovely Michelle for all her support.
