over 25 years In the making

Welcome to the Tai Wu Chinese Restaurant, a little part of The Far East just a mile south of Manchester City Centre. We have now rebranded from the Tai Pan, as hopefully with a change in name we can also prosper with a change in fortune after such a difficult year during the pandemic.

Our aim is to take you beyond the “Bamboo Curtain” on a culinary experience that will both delight and tantalise your taste buds. Tai Wu literally translated means “Great Lake”, and is one of the largest lakes in China which draws a parallel with ourselves being one of the largest Chinese restaurants in Manchester.

Tai Wu boasts a huge expanse of space, presenting a comparable eclectic choice of regional cooking styles and cuisines, we truly offer an authentic array of dishes duly confirmed by those who have visited the Far East and those visiting here from our Motherland.

Great selection of dim sum dishes, some of which we can't find even in London. Service was good. If we lived closer we'd be regulars. Parking is free but tiny parking lot and always a queue to find a space.

Very good restaurant, it's nicely decorated inside, modern, and clean. Service is very good, they do dim sum, and traditional Chinese dishes. The roast meats are very good, especially roast duck, pork belly, vegetables are cooked really well and are beautifully presented. The only downside is that the car park is woefully inadequate so it's often full.

The food here is always good so you know what you’re getting every time! It has been a very popular venue with my family for a number of years and we always enjoy ourselves here. The venue is not very modern but is very nostalgic for many first gen Asians.

Booked a Chinese New Year meal with friends here but have come before for dim sum. Always enjoy coming to Tai Wu as their food is delicious. We got a range of dishes which everyone loved, and we really appreciated the staff for being accommodating of our friend who had a peanut allergy, especially as we know they can't cater specifically for people with allergies or dietary requirements. But I called up ahead to check if they used peanut oil (which they don't) and on the day the server let us know which dishes did or didn't have peanuts it. Service was fast and both food and drink came out quickly despite it being busy. Pretty standard prices for a Chinese restaurant, think we spent around £40 per person including drinks. The only small downside is the parking as it's not a huge car park and spaces are tight, and it's also used by people who visit the supermarket downstairs.

The food has really improved now, the food is good, but I always eat dim sum, I will try the dinner next time.
