Marvin: Musculoskeletal Injury & Sports Medicine PractitionerDuring Marvin’s competitive career as an ex international gymnast for GB, he was exposed to the difficulties of managing acute and chronic injuries. Following a successful sporting career competing in gymnastics at highly regarded locations such as the prestigious Vladimir school of gymnastics in Russia, Marvin went on to join the military in her majesties Royal Artillery. Working as a soldier in the armed forces proved to be both mentally and physically testing, but these are both areas that Marvin thrives in when the pressure is on.Through the physical nature of his tenure, Marvin witnessed a wide variety of injuries occur to serving and civilian personnel. Through the desire to help those around him, he became aware of his natural interest and aptitude in injury causation and rehabilitation. After some 5 years, Marvin moved on from the Royal Artillery to pursue his desire to expand his knowledge and refine his skills. His aim is to help all population groups that present a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and pain management issues. His need to grow saw him successfully complete a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in Sports Medicine shortly thereafter. Alongside running and practicing at the Injury Rehabilitation Clinic, Marvin is also studying a medical degree in pursuit of becoming a Doctor of Medicine at a well-respected and renowned medical university.
The forearm is a complex anatomical location within our bodies. Throughout, many muscles travel the length of the forearm both front and back. In combination with nerves and stability structures such as ligaments, often, pain in one area can be felt transferred in locations further down the ‘chain’, such as the wrist and or hand.
Hip and knee joints are load bearing joints which also assist in our ability to move in different planes such as to bend forward, backwards and rotate (with the help of the spine!). Often, pain in one or both joints can be down to a multitude of things from age to traumatic injury.
Like the hip and knee joint, the ankle and foot joints withstand high volumes of load bearing as we navigate daily tasks. Where the foot and ankle are placed upon non flat terrain, this can expose us to ‘rolling’ the ankle. Here, stability structures such as ligaments in the foot and ankle become injured through excessive stretch and or overload resulting in pain when load bearing, swelling and or bruising.
The average human spine has 33 vertebrae in total. 7 cervical (neck), 12 thoracic (mid back), 5 lumbar (lower back), 5 sacral (lower back/hip junction) and 4 coccygeal (tail bone). The main spinal cord originates at the base of our skull where the brain sits, and runs the length of the spine, terminating in our lumbar vertebrae (lower back). Pain commonly presents when nerve structures have become compressed by things such as discs and or musculature.
How does it work?Throughout the allocated 45 to 60 minutes, the practitioner will discuss with you everything that is relevant to your injury/pain presentation. Inclusive of this is a detailed subjective assessment which covers your mechanism of injury and what else may be contributing to your injury/pain presentation. Using an upside-down triangle model approach, starting broad and narrowing the suspect list for accurate diagnoses, meticulous and open-minded conversation will best help you to understand your injury/pain presentation resulting in you being able to take total control of your rehabilitation. At this point, objective testing will take place to attempt to recreate your pain symptoms and confirm the diagnosis. Finally, treatment will begin all whilst discussing your ongoing plan to work towards becoming injury/pain free.
How does it work?Throughout the allocated 30 minutes, the practitioner will re visit the history taken during the initial consultation and briefly discuss with you if there has been any change toward your injury/pain presentation. Namely positive or no change. Here, treatment can commence far sooner and education towards understanding your pain and taking control of your own rehabilitation will continue throughout.

Marvin is great. I even have him saved in my phone as ‘Marvin Magic Hands’ and he’s worked wonders! This man knows what he’s talking about - Not only is he a physio, but a chiropractor, masseur & PT too (and soon to be a Doctor!), all of the knowledge of which he blends into our bespoke sessions. Instead of just treating the ailment he takes the time to ‘get you on board’, by explaining the mechanisms of what’s gone wrong (and why) and then puts together a robust plan to correct it. Always positive and flexible (he made himself available within an hour last week when my back went), I’d recommend him to all my friends & family! The cracking of my spine has also been an experience… and well worth booking in for that alone! lol Thank You Marvin 🙏

Marvin has a unique ability when it comes to injury rehab and prevention. Because of his multi skilled background, he brings a fresh approach to treatment. Utilising the traditional methods you would expect from a physio, balanced with his personal training knowledge. He has strong communication skills and spends time educating you on the injury so you're better informed on how to manage it. Very highly recommended!

This is the most satisfying massage I have had since coming to the UK. Very professional, very powerful. He eliminated the muscle tension and fatigue accumulated after my usual workout. Can't wait to have my booking next time.
